There’s something about train journeys that stirs up a sense of adventure, and our recent trip to Wales was no exception. Starting from Leicester, we made a quick pit stop in London before embarking on a five-hour journey to Cardiff. With snacks in hand and spirits high, a group of four friends was ready to explore the charm of Wales.
First Wales Stop: Cardiff – A Blend of Heritage and Modernity
Our first destination was Cardiff, where our journey kicked off with a visit to the prestigious University of Cardiff. A friend’s girlfriend is set to begin her academic journey there, so it was only fitting that we explore the campus and soak in its energy. The university stood as a symbol of ambition, with its mix of classic architecture and modern facilities.
From there, we meandered into the heart of Cardiff’s local markets. The vibrant stalls, brimming with artisan goods, fresh produce, and delightful trinkets, were a sensory delight. As the afternoon rolled on, we made our way to Cardiff Bay. The scenic waterfront, dotted with cafés and buzzing with activity, was the perfect backdrop for some relaxation and photos.
As the clock struck 8, it was time to board our train to Swansea. The journey felt like a continuation of the day’s adventures, with the rhythmic chug of the train setting the mood for the next chapter.
Second Wales Stop: Swansea – Where Nature and Fun Collide
We arrived in Swansea late at night and crashed at a friend’s place, excited for what lay ahead. Morning greeted us with a pleasant surprise: perfect weather. It was a golden opportunity to explore the famed Three Cliffs Bay, and off we went.
The hike to the cliffs was both exhilarating and exhausting. The rugged trails, panoramic views, and the calming sound of waves crashing against the shore made every step worth it. Standing atop the cliffs, we felt an overwhelming sense of freedom, as if the world had paused just for us.
Hungry from the adventure, we rewarded ourselves with a hearty meal. While my friends savoured classic fish and chips, I opted for a delicious vegetarian alternative because, well, no meat for me!
The day continued with a leisurely visit to Swansea’s local market, where the lively chatter of vendors and the aroma of baked goods brought the city to life. We strolled past quaint pubs, and the evening culminated in an arcade showdown. My friends’ competitive streaks came alive over two intense games of pool, their laughter filling the space as I cheered from the sidelines.
That's All For Our Wales Trip Stops: A Bittersweet Farewell
As night fell, we knew our journey was nearing its end. With an early train to London scheduled for 5 a.m., we rested up, cherishing the memories we had created. The return journey was bittersweet; within just an hour, we were back to reality, but our hearts were heavy with the warmth of our Welsh adventure.
Wales, with its blend of natural beauty, urban charm, and heartfelt hospitality, left an indelible mark on us. It’s not just the places we visited but the moments we shared that made this trip unforgettable. Until next time, Cymru!
